Technical Details & Equipment
Overview
The 2027 Tecnam P2006T NG represents a true next-generation evolution of the world’s most efficient light twin. While the original P2006T established a strong reputation for simplicity and low operating costs, the NG introduces meaningful upgrades focused on efficiency, usability, avionics, and mission capability.
The P2006T NG features a redesigned powerplant system utilizing twin Rotax 912 iSc3 fuel-injected engines with advanced engine management. Average fuel consumption is approximately 3.7 gallons per hour per engine, resulting in operating costs lower than any other certified piston twin currently in production. This improvement significantly reduces hourly expenses for flight training operations while making twin-engine ownership far more attainable for private pilots.
Cabin access and usability have been substantially improved. The NG introduces a new right-side copilot door, a redesigned luggage compartment door, widened cabin openings, and updated window geometry to enhance visibility and ease of entry. These changes improve daily operations for both training environments and personal use.
Inside the cockpit, Tecnam redesigned the central console to improve ergonomics and pilot workflow. Updates include a pitch trim control wheel, integrated parking brake, shared center armrest, improved switch layout, and enhanced cabin features such as an alternate air system and LEMO headset jacks.
The avionics suite has been fully modernized with the Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck paired with the Garmin GFC 700 digital autopilot. This system provides advanced automation, flight envelope protection, modern navigation capability, and reduced pilot workload consistent with today’s professional training standards.
Aerodynamic refinements throughout the airframe improve overall efficiency and performance. Integrated LED position and anti-collision lighting enhances visibility and reliability while reducing maintenance requirements.
The maximum takeoff weight has been increased by approximately 130 pounds, allowing greater payload flexibility and expanding the aircraft’s usable mission profile for both training fleets and private owners.
FAA type certification is expected in Q4 2026, with initial deliveries anticipated in Q1 2027. The Tecnam P2006T NG sets a new benchmark for piston twin efficiency, offering modern avionics, improved ergonomics, expanded capability, and industry-leading operating economics in a certified four-seat twin aircraft.
